Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch humiliated Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer in the House of Commons today as she asked a series of simple questions about Labour’s performance in Government – and accused him of getting every answer wrong. In a scathing verdict on the Government and Labour MPs, she said: “They wouldn’t know the truth if it punched them in the face!”

Speaking during Prime Minister’s Questions in Parliament, she first asked how much progress the Government had made in its promise to cut energy bills by £300. Sir Keir claimed bills had fallen by £150, and said Energy Secretary Ed Miliband had also cut bills by another £150 for people on the lowest incomes. But Mrs Badenoch said said: “Energy bills have risen by £187.”

Mrs Badenoch claimed Ed Miliband – a former Labour leader – wanted to “recycle” himself by replacing Sir Keir and becoming leader again.

She then asked Sir Keir how much progress had been made on Labour’s promise to increase the number of teachers. But when the Prime Minister said teacher numbers had gone up, Mrs Badenoch said: “Wrong! There are now 400 fewer teachers”.

Conservative officials highlighted data on the official government website which appears to confirm teacher numbers have fallen.

Mrs Badenoch then asked the Prime Minister how much progress the Government had made on its promise to recruit more police officers. But when Sir Keir said police numbers had gone up, she said: “Wrong again. There are now 1,300 fewer officers than at the election.”

As Labour MPs objected, she said: “It’s the truth. I know they wouldn’t know the truyh if it punched them in the face.”

Mrs Badenoch said Labour MPs were calling Sir Keir a “caretaker” Prime Minister. She said: “He is being called a caretaker because everyone can see that he has lost control of his party. This lot, they are all so busy trying to replace him.”

But she said the leadership speculation helped explain why the Government was performing so badly. She said: “They have taken their eyes off the ball.”

Sir Keir said Conservatives should be “ashamed” of the performance of the last Conservative government.
